FIRST-YEAR REFLECTIONS & A MAP OF OUR REACH

A year ago today—on June 4, 2018—we became a living, breathing publication. Our Founder, Ashley M. Halligan, was in the Village of Esmont, Virginia, while our Editor, Hayli Nicole, was in Dublin, Ireland. Through months of tireless work across time zones—from different corners of the world—we worked together to bring Pilgrim Magazine to life, and we couldn’t be more pleased with how much we’ve grown in one short, miles-laden journey around the sun.

Today, we’re beyond excited to celebrate our first year of storytelling, community-building, exploring, and becoming more and more inspired by our contributors and the stories they’ve shared with our readers. In fact, when we took a comprehensive look at our first year of publishing, we were blown away by just how vast our reach has been. We thought there was no better way to demonstrate this than through a map that showcases three things: the home base of each of our contributors, the geography which was covered in their story or photo essay, and—what perhaps shocked us most—the location of every person who’s visited Pilgrim Magazine between June 4, 2018 and today.

This map tells this story.

You’ll see a line connecting each author to the vicinity of their piece. And every country that’s shaded represents a country where our readers have come from.

While it’s evident we have some work to do to garner interest in Greenland, we are absolutely thrilled that our reach has touched this many corners of our big, wild, wonderful world—in the form of contributors, stories, and audience. Below the map, you’ll find personal reflections from the year past, expressions of gratitude, and aspirations from both Ashley and Hayli.

We cannot thank each of you enough. You are the reason we are thriving. Your stories and curiosity are our sustenance.

The thing is, this is only the beginning of our pilgrimage. We have endless ideas, things in the works, stories to share, little-known coordinates to explore, and connections to be made. We hope you’ll continue to walk alongside us as we journey onward—together—with you.
